What Is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that causes you to stop breathing for short periods while you’re asleep. Your body wakes you up to breathe, but the cycle interrupts your sleep and prevents healthy sleep patterns. Over time, without treatment, sleep apnea can increase your risk of serious health issues. The most common symptoms of sleep apnea are waking up frequently during the night, unusual breathing patterns, snoring, waking up feeling short of breath or gasping for air, waking up feeling unrested, and having intense daytime fatigue.
What Is a Sleep Apnea Test?
A sleep apnea test is a diagnostic procedure that is used to diagnose and evaluate sleep apnea. The test is usually administered in a sleep lab, a diagnostic facility that provides treatment for different sleep disorders. You may also be able to take a sleep test at home. During the procedure, you will be attached to sensors that determine if your breathing starts and stops during sleep and measure your breathing effort, oxygen levels, heart rate, brain waves, and leg movements.
Sleep Apnea Testing for Accurate Diagnosis and Treatment
Undergoing a sleep apnea test is crucial for an accurate diagnosis of your condition and for planning your treatment program. The test will rule out other sleep conditions and determine the severity of your condition. It will also help your doctor diagnose the type of sleep apnea you have and evaluate your breathing patterns, heart rate, brain waves, and blood oxygen levels while you sleep. After undergoing testing, we will be able to:
- Make an Accurate Diagnosis – Your test will help your doctor make an accurate diagnosis of sleep apnea and/or another sleep condition that is affecting your sleep quality and health.
- Determine the Severity of Your Sleep Apnea – Your doctor will use the information gathered during the test to determine the severity of your sleep apnea and design a more effective treatment plan.
- Identify Coexisting Conditions – The results of your test will also help your doctor identify any other sleep disorders or conditions that are affecting the quality of your sleep.
- Create a Personalized Sleep Apnea Treatment Plan – All of the information gathered during your test will be used to optimize your treatment and create a comprehensive treatment plan to improve your sleep and overall health.

Why did you decide to open a solo practice?
I feel the only way we can do our best is if we dedicate all our energy and resources to what we do… help you sleep. Although multi-specialty practices are great in many circumstances, healthcare systems tend to focus their attention/resources to their most profitable services. At SAIF, sleep is our only focus.
